The key to all of this — being able to do all of this — seems to me, after 30 years of meditation, is to slow down. What mindfulness does is to cause us to observe what’s happening internally, rather than just be a victim of it. Watching the progression from emotion to ego to thought to action allow us to intervene in the process and have some say in it, rather than being run by it.
