There is no map: Because you can’t see a wave when you’re riding it, you only know your local conditions. So every decision has to be based on only the information you have locally and what you might infer from that (like Plato’s shadows). When you’re in the midst of a new situation it’s impossible to know what’s the “right” decision (if you can even define “right” at the time). All you have are your feelings, intuition, experience, and any wisdom you might have collected along the way.
